The Presence of the Past: Peter Zumthor Reconsiders LACMA

LACMA examines its own building history and the complicated relationship between the museum’s campus and its Hancock Park site as a lens through which to understand critical episodes in modern architecture and urban planning in Los Angeles. Swiss architect Peter Zumthor has been commissioned to rethink the east campus and will present a concept that provides new insight into the meaning and function of an encyclopedic museum.

Moderated round tables of four to six panelists, all from the generation immediately following those featured in A Confederacy of Heretics, will engage in lively discussions on the exhibition topics, while Architecture Gallery architects will be on hand in the front row as respondents. Speakers and panelists include Barbara Bestor, Annie Chu, Peter de Bretteville, Hernan Diaz Alonso, Craig Hodgetts, Coy Howard (keynote), Frederick Fisher, Hsinming Fung, Wes Jones, Eugene Kupper, Thom Mayne (keynote), Eric Moss, Michael Rotondi, Andrew Zago and others.
