Mark Lee is a founder and partner of Johnston Marklee. Mark shapes Johnston Marklee’s collaborations with advanced research teams composed of innovative thinkers and designers from various professional and academic disciplines. Possessing a prodigious knowledge of both architectural history and contemporary discourse, Mark directs design teams that maintain a critical edge while striving for efficiency and precision in production. Mark’s expertise and immersion in both historical and contemporary construction methods and building practices has contributed to an award-winning, internationally-exhibited body of work. Combining his academic and design expertise, Mark Lee conducts research in art-related projects, defining institutional brands through design and architecture.

Mark has written and lectured widely on his research regarding culture-specific landscapes and new strategies in material form and technology, including appearances at the Venice Architecture Biennale, Architectural League of New York, the Hammer Museum, Gagosian Gallery, and the Bauhaus, among others.

Mark has taught and served as a visiting critic at numerous institutions around the world, including Harvard University, Princeton University, University of Toronto, Cornell University, University of Michigan, UCLA, UIC, T.U. Berlin, ETH Zurich, Rice University, and SCI-Arc.

Mark is a graduate of the University of Southern California where he earned a B.A. in Architecture. He earned his second architectural degree [M. Arch II] at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD).
