Isadora Alvarez is the Founder and Creative Director of BackBeatRags, the California lifestyle label creating low impact essentials for the modern tomboy.
Born in the Philippines and raised an island girl in the tropical paradise of Palawan, Alvarez’ first brush of with fashion happened as a teenager. Frustrated with the island’s lack of sartorial edge, she took matters into her own hands and designed her first pair of red flood pants inspired by No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani. Sparking her love for clothing, she acquired a degree in Fashion Design in Manila, Philippines. With no formal business training to back up her growing creativity, she relocated to San Francisco to enroll at Academy of Art University’s program for Fashion Merchandising.
Upon graduating, Isadora relocated to Los Angeles to try her hand working in a corporate environment, gathering more business training and subsequently working as a retail buyer for a major off-price retailer. In 2015, burnt out from the corporate life and disheartened by the waste created from the fashion industry, she knew it was time to take the leap and start her own business. With the motivation to create a brand that offers ethical and sustainable pieces that are made to last, BackBeatRags was founded.
What first started as a shop selling vintage tees and sweatshirts, BackBeatRags currently offers thoughtfully made apparel for everyday wear. With a commitment to promote positive environmental impact and ethical manufacturing, they consider every step and every thread, from sourcing to shipping.
