There are over 80+ events happening throughout the city during the four days of the LA Design Festival but we wanted to make it easy for designers to see it all. Read on for our top picks, must-sees and go-do’s.
Thursday, june 20: Elena Manferdini, Mud AUSTRALIA, Vitsoe, Twentieth x Henzel Studio
Start the design weekend out early. Come by ROW DTLA to meet the 2019 ICON Award recipient, architect, product designer, artist Elena Manferdini. She speaks with Clever podcast host Amy Devers. On your way to Twentieth for the opening night reception of their new exhibition with Henzel Studio, swing by Mud Australia and Vitsoe on West Third to check out two special window displays.
Friday, June 21: ON THE EDGE, EPICENE, INTRO/LA
Swing by our home base on Friday afternoon to see ON THE EDGE and EPICENE, two special exhibitions featuring award-winning LA designers. Interiors Editor-in-Chief Erika Heet sits down with Ambos Project to talk about their cross-border collaborative work. Stick around for the Design Block Party which is essentially a street party à la Tortona, but our own LA version of it. Every member of the Collective, all design exhibitions, and all public installations will be open late with music in the streets by dublab.
Saturday, June 22: Speed of Light, AIA Restaurant Design Awards, and A+D Museum
Spend the day in DTLA. Start by checking out Kohler Street Collective’s Studio Open House. Head over to ROW DTLA to check out INTRO/LA. It’s their fifth year in LA and the independently curated show features a who’s who of LA designers. Then stay and catch A+R’s special conversation with Andlight and Resident, part of a collaboration with IDS Vancouver. Nip across Market Row to the AIA Restaurant Design Awards afterwards to meet the who’s who of hospitality designers and architects. Don’t miss Hem Fest featuring an exhibition by Object Permanence and a raffle for Max Lamb stools in their Arts District showroom, then make the short trip over to the A+D Museum for “an urban situation” - a summer night’s party celebrating their new exhibition and a special collaboration with Dopium LA.
Sunday, June 23: SARAH ELLISON x HAWKINS NEW York, GOods market by bend, dopium.LA x LA design festival experience
Close the weekend by checking out the first-ever Goods Market by Bend, featuring independent LA makers.
